For January and February, our Humanist Program will be at the Grandview Public Library, 1685 W. 1st Ave, Grandview, 43212.

Programs are still the second Saturday of each month and begin at 1pm. Join us for pizza at 12:30!

Unfortunately, we are unable to continue to meet in the Northwood High Building. Please bear with us while we look for a more perminant location for our monthly Humanist Program.

In 1978, fundamentalist Tim LaHaye published an anti-gay propaganda book called "The Unhappy Gays." LaHaye made unscientific claims about gay people, especially the claim that gay people were unhappy. Then LaHaye used unhappiness as an argument against being gay. Fortunately, times have changed, and after wide exposure of bullying, many people see that gay people are sometimes unhappy about how they are treated but not necessarily unhappy because of being gay. » Read more

As promised, we have more details for the Winter Solstice Banquet! Jamila Bey will be our guest speaker at the 2011 Winter Solstice Banquet. She’ll be speaking on the topic “Holidays for Heathens”. Humanists need to replace things that are lost when we no longer believe in the supernatural or in God. Humanists benefit from community and ceremony even if we do not ascribe religion to those experiences. » Read more

During AIDS/HIV scare of the early 1980’s, men that engaged in sexual activity with other men were banned by the FDA from donating blood or organs for life. Still in place over 20 years later, the ban not only affects men who have had sexual contact with other men, but any women who have had contact with this class of men. Modern HIV testing means this precaution is no longer neccesary and needlessly prevents potential donors from helping others and saving lives. » Read more

- It's time to give of yourself...donate blood and then replenish yourself by going out to dinner with fellow donors and freethinkers.
  
  You can donate at the Carriage Place Donor Center from 4:00pm - 6:00pm, then dinner! (Dinner location TBA.) If you cannot donate, come and cheer on those who can.
  
  Learn more about who's eligible to donate, and make an appointment at the Red Cross website. The donor center does prefer if you make an appointment, but walk-in donations are also welcome (so don't shy away just because you forgot to schedule an appt).
