Save a Life Petition to Repeal the FDA's MSM Blood Ban
During AIDS/HIV scare of the early 1980’s, men that engaged in sexual activity with other men were banned by the FDA from donating blood or organs for life. Still in place over 20 years later, the ban not only affects men who have had sexual contact with other men, but any women who have had contact with this class of men. Modern HIV testing means this precaution is no longer neccesary and needlessly prevents potential donors from helping others and saving lives.
What can you do about it? You can sign the Save a Life petition to repeal this ban. A repeal of the ban would allow healthy individuals to contribute to those needing blood and organs. HCCO already participates in a Bleed & Feed every eight weeks - this is a great way to further support our community, promote equality, and encourage reason-based policy decisions.

It isn't perfect, but definitely a step in a good direction!
