Friday, February 24th
To RSVP, please follow the link http://www.meetup.com/HumanistOhio/events/51570652/.
This meetup will teach novice sewers how to make a basic totebag. You are welcome to bring a snack or beverage to share. Space is limited to only 10 people, so if you must cancel, please do so in advance to give someone from the waiting list a chance to attend.
If you would like help shopping for supplies, we will be meeting a week prior to the class for the Learn to Sew Shopping Meetup on February 18, 2012 at 11am. If you plan to attend both events, please please RSVP on the both Meetup pages.
This meetup is FREE-you just need to bring your supplies. Donations to HCCO are always appreciated and are tax deductible.
What you'll learn:
Setting up your sewing machine: winding a bobbin, threading, selecting a stitch, stitch settings
Straight seams
Zigzag seams (edge finishing)
Corners
Pressing for best results
General sewing technique
The pattern and directions are online at http://tinyurl.com/77jz8a7 for your convenience. Printed copies will be provided at craft night.
BONUS! We're offering a guided shopping trip on Feb. 18 at 11:00 a.m. if you need a hand geting started with your shopping. It's listed separately here on Meetup.
Shopping list:

Scissors (get a good pair and dedicate them to fabric only)
Pins (if you don’t have them some will be available)
Seam ripper
Seam gauge or ruler
*Cutting mat and rotary cutter if you have one.
FAQ
If you have questions about the project or materials, e-mail Sue at susanhenry42@gmail.com.
If you have questions about the location, contact Kerri Boris through Meetup.
Can kids come? Kids age 10 and up are welcome. They will be playing and/or watching a movie in a separate area of the house so they must be able to mind themselves. No children under 10, please. The event is in a private home and is not suitable for young children.
Do I need a sewing machine to attend? Probably. We have one machine available for student use. Talk to Kerri Borris about reserving it.
Can I share my machine with my friend? Yes, but it isn't recommended as the class will move fairly quickly.
I already know how to sew, can I come? This class is intended for beginners. Why not organize a sewing meetup for intermediate to advanced sewers? Contact Julia at coordinator@hcco.org if you're interested in hosting an event.
I don't want to sew, but I want to come hang out. Great! Join us at our monthly HCCO meeting, Heathen Chicks, or one of the many other events HCCO offers.
